'We will bring Tata back to Bengal' CM Suvendu says Industry to get major boost in full Budget

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday said the state government would bring the Tata Group back to West Bengal, reviving discussions around industrial investment in the state. Speaking at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, the Chief Minister stated that the government was actively exploring new industrial opportunities and had already received proposals for multiple projects.

Addressing questions related to Singur, where Tata Motors had earlier planned to establish its Nano car factory, Adhikari said the condition of the land had changed over time. He stated that the soil at the site now contains iron rods and cement and added that a team led by the Industries Secretary has been formed to examine various project proposals received by the government. He did not specify whether any future Tata investment would be located in Singur.

The Chief Minister's remarks came in the context of the Tata Motors Nano project's departure from Singur in 2008 following protests over land acquisition. The issue has remained a significant reference point in discussions concerning industrialisation, manufacturing investment and employment generation in West Bengal. Adhikari reiterated that the government intends to facilitate the return of the Tata Group to the state.
